Went out this morning and met 5151 at Paradise Island. Fished the area for a bit, with a few smallish trout to show for it. Scott nailed a few trout and a small red on the fly. Wind started picking up afternoon, so we called it a day.
Decided to head across the street and try the ville. Wind was pushing water back on the flat, so the fish weren’t coming out like they should be. Kept hearing them back in the grass, but took a while to find them on the edge. First hook up high tailed it into the grass and my mono leader broke. Second hook up was big and not a redfish. It jumped once and broke the line. Didn’t get a good look at it, much to big to be a lady. I know this sounds crazy, but I think it might have been a Tarpon!
Finally, another reel goes screaming, and this one is on good! The fish started ripping line off as it went into the grass, almost took me down to the backing! Pulled the anchor and gave chase into the grass. The fish had run this way and thay all through the grass, and it took me about 20 minutes of the fish running and me chasing and untangling the line from the grass before I could get a good look.
The fish was HUGE!!!
Finally landed on the Boga, and no ■■■■, 18.5 lbs. I wish I had a length, but if I had to guess, about 35". (Seriously) Here are three crappy camera phone pics that don’t do it justice (the yay is 30" wide):
Caught one more nice one that stayed out of the grass this time and gave a good old fashioned fight without any shennanigans. Both fish on cut mullet on the bottom. Here is the “small one”:
The big one would have won the tourny, no doubt about it!
Nice job DD and im sure that was a nice ride on the yak. I know what you mean about the pics not serving the fish justice but to me he looks awfully big and at nearly 19 pounds thats a nice fish. Nice job and thanks for sharing!
That’s the biggest Red I’ve seen taken there in the villa. Too bad it wasn’t Saturday. I’d like to see someone win the tourney with a fish of at least that size. Hopefully the bite stays on for the rest of the week.
DD,
One of my neighbors asked me why I’d want to launch a yak and go fish in that dirty water in the “ville”. I think your pics answer that question with with an exclamation point!
Great job:sunglasses:
