I finally managed to get down to Edisto for a much needed redfish trip! College bass fishing is taking up most of my time but my roommate and I managed to sneak away for the weekend to find some fish. It was nice to see things slowly coming back together after the hurricane. Our goal for the weekend was to pull reds out the surf, catch albies at the 40’, and kill some trout numbers inshore. We managed to do all of that on our long weekend guys trip, but the wind kept us to only really kill the surf game. We fished the 4th through the 8th.
We brought the boat down to see if we could find any schools of torpedoes in that 40 foot range and that we did. But only ended up fishing for an hour out there and every other time we went out we got blown back in. We managed to land one albie as a school formed on the front of the boat which was cool. But not catching a bunch was a little disappointing. I did manage to catch a family tree of black sea bass on a sabiki rig though!
We spent one morning early with some live shrimp and plastics to catch some trout in the creeks. We caught a few but never just laid into them like some people. Couldn’t get out of the wind or find any clear water.
So we spent all our time doing what we know best and that is surf fishing Edingsville beach. We normally would take the golf carts from the house to Frampton inlet and hit some spots in there, but Matthew killed the golf carts. So it was a beach cart trek to the beach to some mud and oyster spots in the surf. The Creeks around produced all the mullet we needed for bait. We started with flouro leaders but got wrecked to many times by sharks that the wire fish finder rigs became our staple. The reds didn’t seems to mind to much though. A
