Mornin’;
Hooked and faught one Cobia to the Kayak…after thrashin’ and smackin’ the crap out of me
it spit the hook. Then landed one shark. “YotF” and “Lil’-X” didn’t get a bite (I was trollin’ a ledge drop off, they were anchored over an artifical wreck) Cobia are in the River “Hot & Heavy”. Check out the “Beaufort / Hilton Head” section of the CharlestonFishing forum. Guys here are hookin’ 8-13 Cobia per day.Some real nice size 80# (most in the 30-40) Some say it’s the best Cobia Season in a long time.
…plus I have heard of some Tarpon have been spotted in the creeks.
DANG…maybe I shouldn’t have asked…I can’t make it (pouring concrete)…ya’ll post some pics.

Wife’s got to visit with friends and I HAVE TO GO! So no yaking or diving for me this weekend.

Hey YotF
I need some help with directions. Is Lowcountry Marine Supply Inc, 246 Robert Smalls Pkwy, Beaufort, SC Phone: (843) 524-4600 correct for the Saturday morning starting point? Also does the location of Lowcountry Marine Supply look correct on Mapquest? Lot of times I find that Mapquest can be off by a few miles. I could not find McPhearson’s in the yellow pages? Are they in Port Royal? How do we find McPhearson’s? I did see a BBQ joint in Port Royal during my recon trip a couple of weekends ago, but I’m not sure how I got there.
Also what do we need to anchor in these areas we’ll be fishing? Normally I anchor with a 3 or 5 pound folding anchor with just a few feet of rope since I’m in only a couple of feet of water. Any worries of break-ins where we’ll be parking?
Thanks

Stinky Fingers,
Yep, that is the correct place. Mapquest is accurate on that one too. Just look for all the vehicles with yaks on Robert Smalls… Not that long of a road once in Beaufort!
As for McPhearsons, turn into Port Royal on Paris Avenue, and proceed past the Elementary School. McPhearson’s is on your right about 200 yards past the school.
Anchor, right now the plan is to drift along a drop off, though, you could anchor in the shallows and toss bait into the channel/kayak 10 yarsd to the channel, drop bait and return to shallows to re-anchor.
Seems the best anchor here, is a downrigger ball…
