I’m planning on coming down Friday afternoon (XXXX.5), should be able to bail out of work at noon here in Charleston. Still not sure where I’ll be crashing for Friday and Saturday night. That’s what my recon mission last weekend was for. Any advice? I have no camping gear, so I’ll be looking at Ho-Jo’s, the Ramada Inn, or a cabin at Hunting? Follyman (a.k.a Andy) is thinking about coming too.
I’ll trade you this trip on the Board River for a trip up here in Copahee Bay, if you’re interested? I can get you in and out of Copahee without getting stuck and/or covered in pluff mud (knock on wood).
Thanks

Once you fish with us, you are a official BARFer… For whatever that is worth!
DolphinD,
Yep, Sabiki’s work great. We will also be able to get bait Sat morning at the meeting point. I am trying artificial for Cobes this year. (Bait failed me the last two years.) A Huge Bucktail Jig with a long trailing Pig, jigged vertically.
One more question that may or may not have been answered, How far is the paddle and what type of conditions should we expect?? I am trying to determine which boat to take with me. I usually like to paddle the Ride 135, but it is not the fastest boat for long hauls. I might bring the Tarpon 160 if it is a longer paddle.
Sorry for all the questions, just have never fished your area or for cobia.

…not far at all less then 1/2 mi. Current can be strong, during the peak flow of a tide change. If the wind picks up it can get choppy. It’s best to be in the water 2 before and 2 after the tide change. Cobia don’t feed as well during the stronger part of the tide swing. For now, here’s where we’re plannin’ on going …
…it will be block “B” the inlet to the right of the Block, where the “B” is typed is the boat ramp. “A” is also a good spot, but depending on weather there is “live fire”, might not have a good launch spot. I’m checking.

we could (if need be) launch from “Ribbon Creek” to access Block “A”. It’s a little longer paddle, but it is also protected from the wind. This bottom of this Map “butts” up to the top of the above map.
I made a "Bait Bullet". I used an 18" length of 4" PVC pipe ( seems like I have a PVC fetish), 02 end caps, one bungee cord (with the ends removed) and an eye bolt. I glued one cap on for the bottom. then I drilled two holes (just big enuff to pass the bungee cord thru) on the other end directly below where the cap seated. Then I drilled a hole in the top of the remaining cap. I installed the eye bolt and tightened it down. Then I knoted one end of the Bungee cord and passed it thru one of the holes from the inside (leaving the knot inside the tube). I put the cap on the tube, passed the bungee thru the eye bolt and into the other hole. Then I snugged down the bungee "kinda" tight and knotted it. I removed the cap and sanded the tube and the cap so they came apart easy. Then I drilled holes around the tube and cleaned off the "Burrs". I attached a long length of cord with a 2' section of pool noodle attached. I plan on transferring the eels to the bullet just before I launch & tow it behind me.:sunglasses:
Thanks, I may do that, I have the makin’s here at the house for that but it would be 3" I think. I’ll have to look. Can you just put them in a bag and chill them on ice or would do they need to be alive?

…they actually seem to keep better in a damp towel on ice. If their in a pail of water (with out an air source) they seem to die in a few hours…go figure, I guess:smiley:

NO, I wouldn’t think so. Both landings are obscure, and are not heavily used. Sat., there were at least 30 boats in the area we were fishin’, and there was only one boat trailer at the landin’ we used (and it is a very short distance from where we parked and the ramp…maybe 30’)
