The dog and I decided to do some fishing friday. Got to haddrells around 7am and picked up some shrimp. Got on the water as the sun was rising. Water temp was 72 and it was 63 degrees outside with no wind, can’t ask for better conditions than that. We got to our first spot on the last part of the rising tide and tossed some bobbers with shrimp. Landed 3 trout with only one keeper at 16 inches. Our next spot had a lot more action. Tossing live shrimp on the bottom in 18 feet of water proved to be a success. The first reel started screaming after seconds of setting it in the rod holder. As I battled the first fish to the surface, my dog Luna starting whining in anticipation. As I net a 26 inch red and toss it on the deck, she begins her ritual of licking it. After releasing that one, 2 more followed within 30 minutes. 24 and 25 inches. Where are the big ones! The bite slowed at high so we fished some grass lines without much action. Falling tide with live shrimp in 8 feet of water was the ticket to landing another 26 inch red. Changed spots again using the same techniques and landed 2 slot reds around 18 inches. After a great day like that on the water I suppose I can’t complain for not finding a red over 30 inches.
