Which has given you more success? Also, has anybody caught there own fiddlers. Never given it a try but curious about it, any suggestions?
Depends on where you are at. If you’re in the mud, fiddlers can be quite productive. Minnows are the “all purpose” bait that seems to work better in places like around the surf or sandy areas where fiddlers aren’t common. A “match the hatch” mentality is what I’d suggest.
My name is redfish_matt but don’t misunderstand me, I’m not a redfish expert by anyone’s standards lol… but I have caught a few.
I agree reddish Matt use crabs when they are more common in the area but finger mulet are good bait.
Sorry i ment red fish not reddish
I understand you can catch reds sight fishing to them on the flats and if your sheep or black drum fishing on a dock you can catch reds. Mud minnows catch them inshore. Redfish eat anything smaller than them… AMD I don’t use MM on the surf because there not found in the surf (I font think) ill use FM pinfish sand fleas ect

Yakman, there actually are minnows in the surf that are nearly the same as a mud minnow (size and specie)— the striped (or, lined?) killifish is that silver dart looking fish in the surf and it’s a killi like mud minnows are.
If you are able to catch them, they are good bait. I caught a 29" red at Breech inlet on a killi a long time ago ![]()
Yeah I know what killifish are. I like em as bait also. Just never seen actual MM

Speaking of bait not native to the environment: sand fleas work great in the creek, even though they’re not found there.
