Reds,reds,reds with pics

My Dad and I got out there to do some evening fishing. At the landing, I threw the net to catch some bait. I caught a few shrimps so we moved over to a creek and threw the shrimp under a cork. Caught 1 decent 14" trout, and a few hits. We only had about 5 shrimp so we ran out quick. We threw some grubs and gulp shrimp, but no takers. Since shrimp was working very well we decided to try to catch some more shrimp. We caught enough to last the rest of the evening so we moved up to another creek. Fished the mouth of it which had some oysters. We threw a shrimp under a cork in, but when it hit the water, the cork did not come back up. Then, the drag started SCREAMING! After 4-5 runs we finally got the 32" red inside the boat. After a few pics we got him back into the water. Took a while to revive the fish, but it swam off strong. It was like that the whole evening, red after red after red. We even got our first double hook up, which was a huge mess but we landed both fish. They would not hit anything but live shrimp. We placed FM right next to shrimp and shrimp would be taken. It was a cool evening. Broke the rust, these are some of the only reds we have caught this summer.
Heres the pics

These are just a few of the ones we caught.
All fish were slot size or larger.
All fish were released healthy.

Nice work. It’s that time of year when reds (especially slotties) will be killing all the shrimp they can. If you’re using gulp or Z-man shrimp ,try your best to fish with the same size that you’re pulling up in the cast net. A 4" shrimp doesn’t look natural right now.

When fishing the Z-Man I go with size and color to match what’s in the water and fish them dead drifted or a slow hop on a 3/0 trigger hook.

“In every species of fish I’ve angled for, it is the ones that have got away that thrill me the most, the ones that keep fresh in my memory. So I say it is good to lose fish. If we didn’t, much of the thrill of angling would be gone.” Ray Bergman

nice pics.

nice pix & read, thank you.

Great report and pics to boot. Well done!

Great report and pics RM. Always makes you wonder why they choose that bait on that day. Of course, I would take shrimp over an FM any day of the week.
