Reel Crankie vs Speedy Crank

Have any of you guys used either of these for winding new line on reels or checking bait while deep dropping? I’m thinking about buying one, but I don’t know if either of them are worth it. Loading 6000 yds of PowerPro at 12-15lbs of pressure (more than 1 reel) by hand doesn’t sound like something I really want to do.

What reel are you putting 6000yds of braid on?

I’d back it with mono and put 1000yds of braid on top. Your wallet will thank you…

I’m putting 2000 yds on each of my 80 wides and 1000 yds on each of my 50 wides. 50 yard topshot and 100 yard backing of mono on each.

What brand/model reels?

I would seriously look at doing away with the 80’s and going all 50’s. Purchase one electric motor unit to fit the model. Wind line onto each using the motor, and then use the one motor-powered reel as your deep drop rig.

The drill deal is okay for a few 800ft drops, but you’d better have a lot of batteries if doing more and if more than a few lbs of weight coming up.

i had a reel crankie. didnt work right. threw it away.

I had several of these made a few years ago. I watched a captain in Hatteras snap a plastic one and had our machine shop make some from stainless steel. He was using these (the plastic type until I sent him the replica) for all of his Shimano reels and never had any issues.

The fit nicely into a 1/2" drill and you’re more than welcome to this one to try and if it works well for you - you decide what it’s worth to you. I have six of them left and would like to get rid of them.

Thanks!

A 120v ac electric drill coupled to an inverter eliminates the need/worry of drill batteries.

Thanks saerboy. I ordered a speedy crank for my 80vsw’s yesterday. The owner offered a 2nd adapter that should work on my 50s for no extra charge. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll hit you up for a shot at one of those. They look nice.

Sure thing!

I have the Reel Crankie for the Tiagra 80
Tried it last summer in Keys Daytiming
You’ll have to use a breakaway method or keep your weight under 10 #s
I used an 18volt Ryobi cordless lithium and it worked about one battery per retrieve if under 10#s
