We fished the Far Out Shoot Out Tuesday aboard the Reel Relief. Left the dock around 5:30, broke the inlet around 6 and had lines in around 8:30. It wasn’t very long before POW short rigger on a nice dolphin breaks the silence and starts the action for the day. We boat a nice cow, then a bull then a cow then a slinger etc etc. The dolphin bite was AWESOME. Just like most folks around the 100/400 on that day found very good success on the color change/weedline/fish highway around noon we had quite a few dolphin so we tried poking our noses out a little deeper to find a wahoo or a tuna. Trolled out to around 550’ then trolled back in with just a handful of dolphin then we started to parallel the weedline about 5-600 yards offshore of it and got a couple dink wahoo’s and missed an itty bitty one that thought it was big enough to pile on the center rigger. Just shortly after this I made a an error that i’ll never do again, We had a nice fat blackfin burn the long rigger downnnnn, We had a feeling it was a tuna initially in the fight due to feeling the tail thump and no tell tale sign of a dolphin. Well we get the fish close to the boat and as it crosses the wake I see the dark back confirming tuna, but it didnt appear to be more than a football and a half big… WRONG… I took my wraps on the leader layed the gaff down and attempted to sling a barely hooked 20-25 lb blackfin in the boat…needless to say that one would not be joining us on the dock for a picture. We finished the day out with a few more dolphin and the fat lady sang her sorrowful tune as we cleared lines and rolled in at 26 kts. Great day of fishing, was nice to see so many boats out there. Good luck to those in the tournament who still have yet to fish, great job to those who are currently on the leaderboard, and to those who have already fished and aren’t on the leaderboard I hope your teams had as much fun as we did. Ended up with 18 dolphin and 2 wahoo, pictures are up the Reel Relief Charters facebook page
