Never thought I’d want one, but I picked up a reel w/line counter at lunchtime to use for spoon fishing. Not an issue when dropping to the bottom, but I’ve been catching suspended fish now and got tired of trying to figure out where I’m at without having to watch the screen or level wind while constantly reeling up and dropping back down.
It’s a Okuma Magda 20DXT. Anyone have any experience with Magda series reels?

You could have asked and I would have given you a combo or two to try …
I have all Okuma … Started with the basic Magdas, then moved up to the Magda Pros … Tried the Magda Big Lake series … Now I’m on the Coldwater series …
I have the 20’s & 30’s in all of the series and the Low profiles in the Coldwater series …
Solid reels for the $$ - the Magdas are so cheap they are almost disposable …
You will want to over fill the reel with line to start so you can dial in the line counter … If you under fill it then you pretty much gotta start over with backing …
Not trying to highjack your thread…but, I see that Okuma has come out with a newer smaller model MAGDA Pro 15DXT-T. Sells for around $50 and has twin paddle handle with same guts as the 20DXT with a little smaller line capacity. Anyone have any experience with this model…for the price, looks great…

I run DAIWA SG27LC that I purchased new in 1988 when I set my boat up for fishing Lake Ontario. Only issue now I had a haed time finding rebuild kits last year before heading south to Lake Murray.
my favorite is the Okuma Convector series. its middle class between the magda and coldwater series. The only difference i can tell between the convector and coldwater is that the coldwater seems to be more built to handle saltwater.
