Hey All. Took Kut08 and a friend from my work who brought along his daughter with him out on that calm sea yesterday. My friend has been charter fishing with his daughter before, and once or twice out with friends with smaller boats like mine.
We left Shem at 0320, were met with the same great seas as everyone else. This was my first time driving out in seas that calm. I think now that I’ve seen the light, I’m going to pray for days like that EVERYTIME!!
What a difference in comfort, gas, etc.
Drove towards the Edisto Banks, stopped at 130 feet, put lines in. Sun up at 0610, 5 lines dragging behind the boat at 0620, first dolphin in the boat at 0630. A decent fish, about 20 lbs. I thought that we were off and rolling. This was going to be a great day.
Well, not so much for the fishing action. We, like everyone else around the EB area for the morning had spotty action and picked at them a bit. We had three knock downs with bait bitten below the hook. However, we did go 6 for 6. Didn’t loose any that we hooked, so that was good.
We had one double knock down that produced our biggest of the day, a 25 lb bull. I’ve never seen a dolphin fight so hard all the way to the boat. Kut08 was reeling him in and he took Kut around the boat almost twice, ran everytime he saw the boat, instead of laying on his side like a good tired dolphin should. The best hook up came when we had our planer rod start singing, and shortly after my short line started. My friend and Kut picked up the poles and started fighting. We quickly realized that the lines were going to the same point in the water. I figured we had the fish on one of the lines, and he fouled the other line somehow on himself. So the guys reel him in together. As we get the fish along side the boat, HE HAS BOTH RIGS IN HIS MOUTH!![:0] I’ve never seen that before in my short experiences doing this. It was quite a sight.
We hung around the East end of the weedline/rip everyone was trolling around because that’s about where we cau
Sounds like a great day. I really need to get into this weekday fishing thing! Can’t wait to see the pictures.
Here are some pics. This is all I have so far from my camera, and one that “stole” from my friends daughters Facebook page.
I reeled in our first dolphin. About 15 lbs. Rookie mistake lead to this. I broke my rod tip with the fish in the boat. First causality of the season.

My friend coaching his daughter bringing in a nice bull.

This was the bull she brought in from the other picture. It weighed 21 lbs. on my simple scale.

Here is Kut08 getting slap wore out by a small 25 lb. dolphin.

The ride back in was so sweet!

Hey BC. We left our spot at about 1200 and trolled in towards shallower water. An hour later, in about 150’ we pulled in lines and started motoring in. I don’t remember a small Grady but next time I’ll wave.

No Lynn. Tomorrow, when we go out on our family boat day is when I’m going to fill it back up. Right now she is showing just under 1/4 of the tank. So, we’ll see.
@bruisertoo - I have no idea. I think that he broke it off bouncing around in the boat. We did find what looked like a that piece of the tail in the boat so I think it happened after he came aboard.
