I know Tom. It is always worse in my head than when the pump shows me what I put in.
When I thought I about ran the thing out of gas, meaning my gauge was rock steady on “E” about 7 miles from the jetties (however I ran all the way back to Shem without problems, so a total of about 13 miles) the fuel pump at the gas station when I went to fill the boat back up afterwards said I only put 88 gallons in when the filler neck was overflowing down the side of the boat. If that’s true, with a 106 gallon tank, that means I had about 20 gallons in the tank when that needle buried on “E,” after running for 13 miles on “E.” So when it settled on “E” 7 miles from the jetties, I should have had more than 20 gallons. So I’m relying more on time than the gauge at this point. I know I can run for over 2 hours, fish for over 4, and run back over 2 and have gas showing on the gauge.
Another for instance … my gauge before this last trip was showing 3/4 of tank on the trailer. The filler neck over flowed with the gauge showing like 4/5’s of a tank. The pump showed I had only put in like 15 gallons or so. As I filled my spare cans up, and went back and looked, it was still settling towards “F.”
It’s unsettling to me because I would love to have a system that shows me what I have. I don’t want to have to do public math to know if I’ve got gas or not. I hate that when I run, I show one quantity and when I go to idle in the water I show another, and when I’m on the trailer, I show another. I don’t know which one to trust really. Then, add in the funky gauge lately and I’m all screwed
And I did 70 push ups in one minute on my last fitness test. At least that’s how my arms felt!!
I can’t wait for June. I’ve got my dad and brother coming down on the first nice day after my dad is out of work (he’s a school teacher), and we’ve got a church trip for the guys in my church to plan . . . . if your prediction is right, then bring on the 30+ pounders!! My biggest so far have been 20+ pounders. I’d also love to see a Whoo bloody up my boat for the first time this year.
You got the biggest one this year so far. Last year it was me dominating the big boys…
Well, as far as mahiphinfish go, my biggest was only around 45 lbs.(so what). Sometimes they’re big, sometimes they’re small, but they all taste gooood! I haven’t caught a bad one yet! Who cares, after you filet and give 'em a canola bath, it’s hard to tell 'em apart anyway.
I’m just fine not catching any “trophy” phins. Heck, the 15-20 pounders fit in my coolers a whole lot easier…
