"Reelly Blessed" Nice Dolphin 8/21/2010

Hey all. Back in June me and jpbatliner (we go to church together) decided we needed to do a trip for the people in our church. So, we got our calendars together and saw that Aug. 21st was the best date for the both of us. We prayed for nice weather and got a pretty descent weather day yesterday.

We left the harbor at about 0530 or so. Drove out towards Comanche Reef to start putting lines in. We were met with a great sunrise and a storm that seemed to be coming right towards Comanche. So, we turned north and put lines in over Y73. Both boats had a series of knock downs but nothing stuck.

We trolled SE from there out to about 120 feet of water. On the way from Y73 we encountered the largest Cannonball Jellyfish field I’ve ever seen. They were so thick they were popping my lines out of the clips. However, all this cover made for a lot of bait. In this area we picked up our first and only fish. A nice sized cow for this time of year. I had two guys on my boat. A father and son. Joe, the son was next up for bringing in a fish. I coached him a bit, and he brought in the Dolphin like a champ. Definitely fought the good fight. This was his first time offshore and he brings in a 10 - 12 pound Dolphin. Not too bad.

We picked up lines and drove towards the 69 hole. We circled this area and right after I get my deep planer line in, we get a hit and it pops my swivel!! I was so excited and mad at the same time. It was my favorite wahoo rig that I lost, but the thought of something big enough to pop the swivel was exciting. Someone was on the radio talking about their three 40+ pound Wahoo they had caught in 120 feet which only added to my excitement. Alas, we trolled all along there and never saw anything else.

Jpbatliner and the crew brought in two Cudas and two Kings. Well, one and half Kings. One came up missing his tail section. Something took a chomp out of it on the way up. His boat, called “Fishful Thinking” also had an AJ hit off the downrigger right away at the beginning of t

Glad to see someone is getting to fish…

congrats on the dolphin

Thanks Sells. Not a great showing by what was in the box, but a great day because of the fun that was had and just enjoying being out on the water.

Thanks guys. We sure did have some fun out there that day. I wish I could have shown them some more fish, but we did have a good time.

Good Job Adam! You know what it takes to put some more fish in that boat?? Another Yankee!

Thanks Alex. It was harder having to do so much by myself. I was trying to make it as easy on the guys in my boat as possible, and just let them fight fish. It is, however, always nice to have another Yankee who knows what he is doing out there with me.:stuck_out_tongue::wink:

Adam,

Glad to always be on that boat with ya-especially after being in Lynnmcd’s boat. (just playin Lynn) i won’t be able to make it out for a few weeks again, but you remeber who you better call first!

You know it man. We originally had about 8 guys that wanted to go on this from our church. Of course, as we came down to 0-hour some pulled out. That is why I had to vote you off the island on this one man. Don’t worry though, next season, we are all over it.

I didn’t mention it up top there, but my “outrigger bases” broke on me. The backing for one cracked right in half and the other is FULL of stress fractures. That’s what’s wrong with the picture of my boat. Only my left rigger is up and running in that shot. I think I have an idea as to secure them up next time, instead of just forking over a ton of cash to buy an ACTUAL outrigger set up. But, for now, my trolling days may be numbered for this season. I think I owe my sons some time on the water doing some late season trout and red fishing here soon.

I thought you were missing an ear. I hate that happened. There’s nothing wrong with what you have (when fixed), it works! Heck, look at what I use. We don’t set any records, but we do catch plenty…
Looks like I am going to shoot for Thursday as of now, if the wx holds. I need to find at least one to go, or I may go solo…

Lynn. Yeah, looking at it later on, I think that the rod holders taking all that weight from the poles (especially when the poles were bouncing from the rocking of the boat) took its toll finally on the mounts. So, if I can figure out some way to use the same set up, angle the outrigger poles up a bit, and secure the poles to the T-top outer frame with the base still being in the rod holders where they were, I think that will relieve the pressure off the rod holders and make it more secure. This is my scheme anyway.

Let’s never forget one very important thing . . . . the Miss Amanda NEVER disappoints.:sunglasses::wink:
