Okay, with the forecast not changing for today for the last couple of days, I thought it would be a great day to introduce the family to offshore fishing. The plan was to go out to Comanche and head East to SE for deeper water, stopping along the way to see how everyone was doing to make sure I wasn’t pushing them any more than they wanted to be. However, once we got to 60’, my kids started to mutiny. The water was windblown, snotty, and white capped making for a less than pleasant ride for them. So, to compromise, I put lines in south of the 60, and ran the 150 line out to about 90’ When we hit 90’, I turned a bit more easterly, and BAMM!! Fish on. I turned my head to see what was going on only to see a nice sized slinger cow leaping out of the water. I told my wife to grab the rod, and away she went. The cow jumped multiple times putting on a great show.
The water was about 79 degrees, there was a lot of grass inside of 90’, but not much past. We didn’t see any life until we got to 90’. Out there flying fish, flipper, and turtles. Had we been able to run out there right away, things may have been really different. The cow hit on my close line, just where the prop was was clearing, on a bright green skirt on top.
Here are the pics of the proud angler. I’ve now got a problem though, she’s hooked on this completely!! A good problem I guess.
dmszlam - As I learned when Lynn took me out, I left the lines dragging behind as long as I could before they started getting in the way of Keri’s fight. No other fish were seen. This cow was the only fish we saw all day. We were only in about 100’ of water for about an hour the whole day.
T2B - My wife saw your avatar and says, “I WANT ONE LIKE THAT!!” I told her in the spring, we’ll be out there.
Lynn and Jazzed - It would be awesome to do a “spouse” day out there. I bet that would be a lot of fun. Lynn, Keri says that if I’m not home in time from Qatar this spring, she is going to be giving you a call!

lynnmcd, i think long enuff is trying to say that “miss amanda” spends the same amount of time out the water as she does in the water when you are “running”. i know from experience that if the boat will do 40mph, no matter what the conditions are, you are going to get it to 45mph:smiley:!!! not that i go offshore with you but i have been fishing with you a few times!!!
i told you, im ready when you are. gimme a few days in advance to get off from work. me, you and lyn need to go out there. two yanks vs the southerner.
