I need some small push botton reels for my young granddaughters. My experience with these types of reels has not been good. I would appreciate any reel recomendations for a 5 year old, that will work.
Thanks

I assume you are talking “Zebco like” reels? I bought my 7 year old a smaller mostly metal one with a 5’ rod last year and it seems to be pretty decent for what I paid for it. I want to say it is a Zebco Model 33 but I cannot swear to it. I’ll look at it tonight. For the most part, I am not sure you are going to get one like that to last forever as I don’t think that is what they were made for.
Basic reel for a kid would be Zebco 202–very inexpensive and they work. A step up would be a Zebco 33. but it’s a little heavier and may be more difficult for a 5 yr. old to handle. I’d start with a Zebco 202.
I’m a single guy who likes to take my lady friends fishing. Most of them are not spinning real compliant and I’m not about to stick a bait caster in their hand. I bought (2) zebco 33 pl’s (platinums) and re-spooled with 10lb. power pro. Funny thing is when we got into some trout last year I was having a blast with the zebco’s. Small fluro leader, 1/4oz jig heads, green w/silver flake grubs, you can fling that s.o.b. with the zebcos. First rod n reel dad ever bought me was a zebco 33pl, everyone in my family tried to “forget” to put it back, great reels, not sure how long they are gonna last in salt water though.

It’s called a spincast reel. You see them mostly in freshwater, but spanish is right, they can be a lot of fun when you are slinging light and UL baits. Do a web search for “spincast reel” and you should come up with some info.

Zebco 33 is THE most practical reel EVER made for the price and durability. Those babies can last for years trouble free, anyone can use and throw them far distances; AMAZING dudes.

my kids are now teens and can fish anything. yrs ago i tried every kind of spincast I could find cheap and not cheap. the salt eats em, even when flushed and lubed.
