I’ve got this “flats boat” that I’ve got to recoat the floor on, soon.
The finish is flaking in spots, an some flakes are larger than others.
I need opinions/advice on what to use and how to prep.
I want an anti-skid type surface, and want it to be somewhat easy to apply. I’m not lazy, but I don’t want some insane prep-work. i.e. I don’t want to have to strip the whole inside of the boat.
Here’s what I have. Any recommendations are appreciated:

This sounds kinda wierd, but my neighbor used that roll on truck be liner stuff and it came out pretty good. not too much prep work doing it that way. other than tha i say sand it down and paint it with awlgrip.
My 1st thought was the bed-liner stuff. But…my ONLY concern is the added weight. Ultimately, I guess it isn’t too much added. It’ll take, what, 2 gallons? So, that’s ~15 lbs. if ya break it down. No biggie in essance, but it seems like it’d be more…

I would not suggest using the bedliner stuff you’ll never get it off. Go to Lowe’s and go to the paint section. They sell Rustoleum latex paint and non-skid additive to put in it. Only prep work is a lite sanding on your current floor to make sure the new paint grips. You should only need a quart or two of paint…and one can of the non skid. I just used it on my boat. The best thing about the non skid is you can control how much you use. Let me know if you have any questions and good luck.
Wally – thanks. I work at Lowes, and talked to the Valspar rep today. He advised the same thing. He wasn’t 100% sure, but said that he thought it should work okay. I wasn’t positive about the advice, but this helps.
Can you post pics???

Another option is to buy boat paint of the brand and color you choose. Tape off the areas you don’t want to paint. Apply one coat of the boat paint and then sprinkle dry sand (purchased at Lowes) on the wet paint. Allow to dry and then sweep off and vacuum the excess sand. Apply one more coat of paint over the top of the sand. Allow to dry, remove tape, done. Works great, relatively cheap, easy to touch up in future as needed. I have done it myself and a lot of dive boats in the caribbean have the same set up. Good luck.
Also, bedliner is usually dark and will get hot, hot, hot in the sun for bare feet. I also don’t know about latex paint durability on fiberglass. I would probably go with paint made for fiberglass, and the one part paints are cheaper.

great info, thanks. I’m building a 19 ft wooden C/C dory and was looking for a good finish for the deck. Anyone know where I can find trailer bunk brackets for an elderly galvanized trailer?

I have a 89 sea pro that I have painted the floor several times over the years. I used a oil based top side enamel from west marine. You will need to put sand in the paint or sprinkle on afterward.
I have been in the paint business for 25 plus years and reccomended this several times with out problem.
Surface needs to be clean and dry. Select the lightest color you can due to darker colors will generate heat and cause failure.
Latex products will be easy to use but will fail due to adhesion problems.
The ext oil base enamel found at HD or lowes should also work without problem. The sand is also available as well at hd or lowes. Some vendors called the sand shark skin paint additive.
