registering a boat from out of state

Ok…here is the question…I got a boat from family member from out of state and I need to get it registered here. It was gifted to me so no money exchanged hands. I have the title for the boat but not a title for the motor (not a motor titling state). What is the cheapest way to go about getting it titled. Would it be better to have a bill of sale for $100.00 or so, or would it be cheaper to say it was a “gift”? Also, by the way, this is a OLD jon boat…I’m talking 1960’s or so. Same with the motor. I’ve read through the registering section on the DNR site and there is an exemption for boats before 1970 something. Could not tell if I was exempt or not. Could I possibly be exempt from the fees and such?

Any info would be appreciative

the motor is to old to tax, boat too. I just registered a Free boat that came with a trailer, no problem, I think there is a place on the form for a gifted boat. You will need a motor sticker though, 10.00 I think, plus registration fees.

Cool!!! I appreciate the info!
