I have got a '67 Boston Whaler that I have repainted and am looking to get it registered pretty soon. When I was working on the hull I never found the Hull ID #. I’m sure it has worn off in its 43 years. My old man seems to have misplaced the Bill of Sale from when we got the thing. I think I still have a picture from the day we bought it with the old registration #'s, but I need to try and get it registered myself.
Is there anyway to get a replacement title without a visible hull id #? Or any other option to get this thing legal?
No worries on the outboard, I just got it and filed the Bill of Sale myself instead of letting the old man ‘hang on to it’
Just went through a somewhat similiar episode…except I had numbers.Go to SCDNR on line and go to “Registration” .Somewhere in that area is a phone number to call for questions. The DNR guy I spoke with was really helpful and I had my registration stickers in 3 days.
I had same problem couple of years ago. DNR took a photo as proof of hull id. After I received clear title and registration from DNR, I had new metal engraved with id and put on boat. No problems so far.
Check inside a few hatches, bilge area, etc… Hull ID # is usually in more than 1 spot on the boat. If you have any access to view stringers, there is usually a hull id on there. Otherwise, go thru the motions with DNR. Good folks over there will take care of you ASAP.
I had both pictures. From the pictures they were able to track a line of ownership. They did make me go back and get a notarized bill of sale from owner, to validate it was a real sale.
I noticed on your last post it says NC office. My sale didn’t cross state lines.
I would assume if you can get title records from NC they would do the same for you. This wouldn’t be the first boat without hull id sold from NC to SC.
I’m going to work on this over the weekend and hopefully get it all straightened out. I’ll be sure to get some pictures up for you tonight or tomorrow.
If it was last registered to your pops, go to DNR and tell them you need to get the hull ID numbers. They’ll want you to do a Title Search but I bet if you tell them the registration numbers and that your dad is the owner, they’ll give you the ID numbers. At the most, they may charge you the $10 for the Title Search
