I am sure you enjoy the man balls up there… tyght linz…
Cracker, they always go the environmentalist route. It’s a concept they can argue against because we like to fish.
What they don’t understand is that those of us that untilize the resources are usually the only ones who care about the resources. i.e. The CCA and the FRA etc. etc.
Fishing is new to most of these guys and now that they’ve caught some MahiDorado fish and their first billfish they don’t need any advice from anyone.
Just give them a few years and if they’re still fishing they’ll see what’s really going on, but in the meantime, I’ll keep trying to educate.
G1, maybe you should take your complaint to the DNR, they are the one’s who inforce the rules,NOT YOU. They say that as long as a sailfish is at least 63" FL you can keep as many as you want(NO LIMIT).This means you can drag all of the sailfish (63"FL)that you want into the boat, take pictures, wipe off the slime and let them flounce around on the deck until they can’t breathe, then saw them in half and put them in the fish box on ice and feed them to your cat if you would like. However, most fishermen like myself choose to release these fish and for that you should be grateful.Instead of *****in’ about the way the fish was handled and released you should thank them for releasing it.There’s a better way to get your point accross than to act like a know it all smart a$$.
You know the limit of red drum is only 2 . Do you go around on the inshore forum and bash everyone who is holding a red drum for a picture?
Do you read before you type?
I’ve said many times that I have no problem keeping a Sailfish if it’s legal.
All I’m doing is providing information from more experienced fishermen on a better method of doing something.
I’ve never bashed anyone for keeping a legal sailfish, but if you’re intention is to release it fight another day then they may want to know that by taking the fish out of the water they are seriosuly reducing the fish’s chance of survival.
As for the red drum…yes, if someone was holding it by the gills I would tell them that they probably killed that fish.
Most people that release fish want the fish to live. But because they see people on CF dragging flapping fish into the boat and beat itself into submission then hoisted up by the gill plate for a picture they assume that it’s OK to do so themselves.
Would it be okay to get in the water and pose for pictures with the fish?
Should I remove my clothes before entering the water to prevent chaffing the fish?
Batter Up…
I have assumed through the years that the only reason people bother to catch sailfish was for their picturesque beauty.Since it is now unethical to remove them from the water, you have the solution. It would probably be better for the fish's benefit not to drag him all around behind the boat attached to a 50W before entering the water.

Congratulations, you’ve instantly made friends with everyone on this site. Please bless us southern pansy fishermen with some more of your northern wisdom and knowledge. We love that! By the way, your profile states that your hobbies are fishing and passing gas. You sound like a classy guy. Do your knuckles also drag on the ground?

see this attitude gents? This is exactly what I mean. I simply make a statement about where I fished and in what climate and you go crying about north/south issues.
Should we give you reperations? It won’t matter because we’re taking over anyway. You’re a dying breed.
I’ve eaten marlin, but never sailfish.I wonder what they’d be like on the grill. We’ve seen alot more sails than tuna this year.Maybe I’d be more of a conservationist if I ate a sail rather than a large yellowfin.I wonder how many more billfish would be alive if the Big Rock wasn’t going on this week?Go to Morehead this week and say you want to catch a blue just to eat it and you’ll probably be linched in public by the same folks that dry them out for $.I don’t get it.If someone catches their first sail with me,we’re pulling it in and getting some pics.If you want to reely protect billfish, then don’t ever eat anything that could possibly come off of a longliner.Until we stop longliners and shrimpboats ,as we did inshore trawling, most of our saltwater regulations and conservation efforts are for naught…Just my 150/th of a gallon of gas worth.
“Give war a chance!”
Now there are lots and lots of recreational fishermen these days. And the number is only growing. Everyone needs to do their part. Thge internet reaches very far and there are a lot of people catching sailfish off our coast that weren’t even fishing 3-5 years ago. I just hate to see the hard work done by people 25 years ago to save the species go unreckognized by uneducated and ignorant fishermen that do not even know the dangers they pose to a fish that they are trying to release unharmed.
</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>those are unarguable facts, and some of the wisest words i’ve seen on here in a while
Didn’t say I didn’t have an attitude. Just pointing out that yours is girly.
When i was coming up we didn’t whine about things. If it was tough times, we just got tough. If there was someone givin’ us a hard time…we just sock 'em in tha mouth.
It’s called having salt boy.
Your whiny bunch could use a peck of it.
Damned hippies did this to us. I bet your parents were a set of flower totin’ drug heads just coddling you through life.
