Remove front Hooks on Top-Water Lures?

I really like Rapala SkitterWalks for early morning top-water trout. Problem is the front hook tangling up in the small loop knot I use to tie on the lure. I have cut the front hook off on a couple of lures, but I wonder if I am affecting lure action or hook-up ratio?
Questions 1: is the loop knot necessary? I am told that it is good for lure action.
Question 2: is the front hook necessary and will it affect lure action/hook-ups?
A lot of times I am fishing in early-am dark, so the tangles can really pizz me off.
thanks, NaClH20

Your loop knot is too large. Remove that front hook, and you’ll have a rally bad hook-up ratio.

a loop knot is great for a 52 series mirro-lure. not neccessary for the top waters. they walk better without it

Rad hit it dead on.

put you a split ring on the plug and
do away with your loop knot and go fishing…

Dog walking works on the basis of slack line as opposed to slack knot. reduce the loop knot or do away with altogether. you could also snip the leading hook of the front treble to leave you with a bible. i doubt that’s the correct word for it but it sounds good. i would do this with the mirrolure 52 like tideline indicated. i think 3 trebles on the mirrolure was a little bit overkill anyway

bible?

How about deble.

keep a topdog with front hook removed and rear hook replaced with an upright facing circle hook for tides when h20 is too high to see fish tail in grass, hookup rate abyssmal, but a fluke or fly presented quickly can produce the “teased up” red for the second angler…
