it can be a real bee-yatch, I did mine recently. I’m sure it depends what model you have though.

On mine there are two allen screws that secure the aluminum gland which houses the seals to the cylinder. You have to replace the whole gland assembly, costs about $75 for a set if I remember correctly. Those screws are put in very tight with super-whammy threadlocker and the heads round out very easily - don’t even think about touching them with anything other than a perfectly-sized, sharp allen wrench/bit that you can put a lot of torque on. Despite my best efforts, the head of one rounded out, and after trying every other method I knew I finally had to tack weld a nut onto it to remove the screw. Removing the old seals was the hard part, reassembly was fairly painless. You’ll also need to bleed the system after you’re done, of course. Again, not too bad but there are some tricks to it.

There are several Baystar models, I’m sure if you post some specifics about model number etc someone here has done it on your type.

There are a couple of the cylinders on eBay in the 200$ range. If you reseal, do like Wolfie said and get a nice, snug fitting Allen wrench. A little heat from a propane torch works wonders with releasing loctite.

Be easy with the heat directly on the cylinder. I would find a old Allen and heat it red hot and let the heat transfer to the bolt so you don’t screw anything up. I have an induction heater for that stuff at work. It’s amazing.

Other than that, do it to it. The worst you could do is totally screw everything up and need a new cylinder.

yeah, the old ones are definitely different. Good luck, hopefully Teleflex can give you some insight. But like MattR suggested it might be worth looking for a replacement cylinder, especially if a seal kit is half the price a cylinder.

Spoke to teleflex technical support and on the model pictured above, turns out there is a “retaining strip” that must be removed before the end cap will come out but to remove the strip which is not immediately visible i will need to:

  1. remove the hydraulic fitting on the side i will be replacing
  2. twist cap/ cylinder until i see the notch inside the hole that the fitting was in and that holds the strip
  3. use a pick to remove the strip and cap should slide out
  4. replace the Seal which is the whole end cap and reverse process for installation
