Replacing Braid

How often should you replace your braid?

Depends on the condition of your braid and how well it holds up. I know guys that replace it every year or more frequent. I have a couple of reels that have had the same braid on it for 3 years.

God bless the “ignore” function.

Sometimes I flip the braid from one reel to another. Wind on the older braid first because you will typically have 50+ yards on braid that has seen little light if any and has not discoloration. Either way about every 2 years.

either flip or cut worn section off and tie on some new

This is a pro tip for those of you playing along at home.

After being released, a lot of fish die, but a lot of them live also.

Captfritz,

Not sure about the pro tip. I am just cheap/tight:smiley:

I dont get to go in the salt as much as others on this site but have been using the same braid for three years. Flipping the reel spool with two empty line spools and lag bolt in a dewalt drill.

I would go 5 or more as long as its in good condition, no abrasion, etc.

Not cheap or tite just practical! Do that with mono on my big reels. tie an empty drink bottle to a swivel, loop it on your line, attach the lose end to a cleat and feed it out of the moving boat when you get to the end on the reel cut the line and swap ends and reel back in!
