replacing floor and stringers

Can I get some pointers on where to cut the floor and stringers so I can replace them.
I don’t know if I cut flush or leave some old fiberglass for new glass to connect to.

I’d be happy to try to help but need more information. What kind of boat is it? How big? Can you post some pictures? What exactly is wrong? Usually by the time the stringers are rotten the transom is too, and the deck, so figure on replacing everything. The further you cut, the worse it gets. Make sure the boat is worthy of extensive repair also. Don’t spend $3 or $4K repairing a boat that’s only worth $4K repaired.

Oh yeah, that’s ugly. You need to cut and grind the stringers down flush to the hull and start over. Get rid of all the old tabbing. Clean it down to a bare smooth hull. It’s a lot of work!

For the sole, it’s usually best to leave a lip a couple of inches wide to support the new one, if the old core is solid. Usually they rot from the center out and the outside edges remain solid. Because people drill holes in them in the middle areas and don’t seal them.

The transom core is certainly shot too. Leave the outside skin intact and cut out everything up to it.

You are looking at a lot of work and $1,500 dollars in material to do it right. Ask yourself if the juice is worth the squeeze.
