I have a 2004 dual axle Aluminum trailer that is in great shape except for the axles. These axles have the torsion suspension (no leaf springs). Both are showing signs of rust in the middle where the bend is. How hard is it to replace these yourself. I plan on pulling it to the keys in August.
Not too hard, but much easier if the boat is off the trailer.
Call Tommy Stone at The Trailer Shop 843-971-7606. He sells them and they will even install them for you if you’d like at a very reasonable price. When I was considering a torsion axle, I checked online with several sources and he was much cheaper when you consider the shipping charges.

Not to mention the hassel of trying to do it yourself. Save the time spent messing with them for fishing. See Tommy!
I just had to replace the torsion axles on my Loadmaster. I’d go to Tommy if I were to do it again…
Dont let the rust scare you. There is more “meat” there than you think. Take a cup wire brush on a grinder and clean it up, then drill a small pilot hole to see how much steel is left.
I cleaned mine up with a grinder and coated with asphaltic coating they sell at home depot. $11 for a gallon which is cheap.
You can also use the spray on rubber undercoating. I used it when I replaced my springs and other stuff on my trailer about 3 years ago. It has really held up well.
