Report 6/7/18 Marlin/Bull

Launched out of Rimleys Point at 3:30am to beat any traffic. Dropped lines around 300ft near the 226. Josh caught a nice Marlin around 9:00am (his first time offshore, lol). My son Ryan caught a nice Bull (51 lbs) around 10:45am in 280ft. Ryan also caught a nice Mahi on his new St. Croix fly rod and Nautilus reel with a fly he tied along a small weed line, pretty impressive to watch. 1 Marlin, 1 Tuna, 5 Mahi, good day for us.

That’s a white marlin.

What kind of tuna did you catch?

If at first you don’t succeed, fish and fish again…

Thanks for correction, 1 skipjack tuna

Very nice. Congrats on your fun day.

Nice report. Sounds like an awesome day.
Nothing like boating a marlin on your first trip out! Josh is now hooked for life.

Awesome job Curtis and crew, thanks for posting the pics and report. Looks like Epling is hooked… (this is Doug from work by the way)

Congrats! On the Billfish, and that STUD bull!
Bet that Mahi on the fly rod was a great show!
I am curious as to how much fuel you burn and at what
Speed/rpm you traveled. Assuming you were in a 211 ultra looking at pics.
I have a 211 with the 200 yammi but have not ventured that far in it yet.
I have all safety equipt etc, just have been worried about fuel burn.
We always take A buddies bigger boat with twins.

Working hard to play harder!!!

Thanks!
Yes, it’s a 2010 21ft Ultra. I have ran out to the ledge about 7 times in the boat. I pick my days 1- 2.5 ft using windfinder APP and have always felt safe. It has a 65 gallon tank and the run is approximately 140 miles round trip. I use about 37 gallons of fuel running out at 16-20 MPH and back in at 22-25 MPH. I never shut down the motor and have always had plenty of fuel.

I am selling my boat. I burn 50GPH or $180/hr!!!

Hunting, fishing, and poker are my sports. Work when necessary.

I used to have a 2010 Seahunt 207 Triton. I believe pretty much the same hull. Did a few mahi trips it. Same story… approx 150 mile roundtrip and about have a tank of gas used at the end of the day. Never had a nice bull on the boat but got a few nice fish nonetheless. Would also use Windfinder and try to stay <2 ft if possible (with a next day forecast within the same range, just in case).

Maybe, just once, someone will call me “sir” without adding, “you’re making a scene.”

Thanks for the report Curtis, it’s exciting to see a “mosquito fleet” boat raise a marlin. Great job y’all, congratulation!
