i like putting in at the dam. as usual… wifey has me a long list of to-dos to keep me out of trouble i guess. the 6-7 launch time is what i’m aiming for.
Probaly be 7 before I can get there-need to go by richards and get bait. I can catch up with ya’ll on the water or we can just leave from there. I am usually on channel 68 on vhf. Can’t wait to meet you guys and have a few good laughs! I have a blue cc triton that is hard to not notice with a 4wd Dodge dually totin it-done talked to the boss and have a pass

i probably won’t leave my vhf on. last time it killed the battery, or was it that i didn’t charge up and left the deck lights, battery, bait tank, fish finder, nav lights, vhf and cd player on for 5 hours? hmmm… i’m thinking the latter
lesson learned. LOL
i’m in a sea pro dual console with honda pilot pullin it.
If you gentlemen would be open to the idea of taking an upstate fisherman out for stripers sometime I’d really like to fish Murray. My wife has a friend who lives just minutes from the dam and we visit her for a weekend occasionally. I usually do little jobs around her house while they visit. The problem is there’s no where to park my boat at her house and I don’t know much about Lake Murray except what I read on this board. The next time we visit I would like to fish all night on a Friday or Saturday or both. I usually fish Hartwell since I’m close and have been with tprice.
I’d rather fish than eat.
well i would love to go this weekend. buuut MY pass just got taken away. well actually don’t think i ever had one. i really think my weekends are very few and far between untill we both get on 1st shift. so days this week and maybe next. Would anyone be interested in fishing during the night during the week. any night but tues, fri, sat, sun
Taz-more than welcome to fish with me anytime. I do drink, fool around and cut up every chance I get-But I do love my wife very much and am completely harmless 40 year old who tries to act 18! I have several acres of land to park your boat at or we can go together until you learn the lake better. Let me know
Epic Failure=When everyday, run of the mill failure just won’t do
I just turned 55 and everytime I try to act 18 I can hardly move for the next 3 days. I just bought a 24’ Tracker pontoon that needs a complete deck and the plan is to make it a multifunction fishing/recreational boat. We have a friend who lives in Lexington who is disabled and I started him pier fishing when we go to the beach so the pontoon will enable him to get out on the lake. Thanks for the reply and I’ll be in touch.
I’d rather fish than eat.
Just got some new hot info in - anybody got downriggers and u-rigs? If so, you may wanna bring them sat night . Yea, I know sumpin’ and I ain’t gonna tell
!

Saturday night sounds doable. Mr. Taz, do I remember correctly that you are somewhat skilled at harrassing the trouts and reds around Little River? Seems that I recall some posts from last winter. Anywho, you are welcome with me, also. Y’all want to try and meet somewhere Saturday evening or just hail each other on 68? I’ll need to stop by Richard’s for bait, also(after going to the river for water). Sounds fun, hope to see y’all out there. Mr. Coolbreeze, if you’d like a ride let me know. I put in at Jake’s.
dernflatlander, do the fish get shocked going from the 55* river water into the 85* lake. I was thinking of filling up with river water because it cool, and should be saturated with O2 after going trough the dam.
Pierce,
I will bring my cranking battery in case we need it. My trolling batter has a hole from the wreck.
o.k. here is the scoop. i drink, cuss and if anybody would ever say yes;maybe fool around. i also love triton’s wife very much. (even though i do not know her from eve). been married to my bride 35 years two weeks ago.
hey dernflatlander; if you want we can take my boat or yours. i have a full tank;two depth finders;fish holders made especially for my seapro by david(driftmaster) bakely;stereo/cd player two live wells;life jackets;stale crackers;flare kit;whistle;and on and on and on and on.
ONE MORE THING; hey triton; you said that we could tell it was you because of the 4wd pulling the boat. won’t the truck be under water? just a silly a#s question. LOL LOL LOL
dernflatlander,
Must have been someone else. I have caught a few but nothing to brag about. I usually target Spanish and more recently flounder. I’m hoping to go offshore Labor Day week if I can find a ride. Used to cuss a little but no one was impressed so I quit.
I’d rather fish than eat.
the cff floatilla is on. sweet!
river water in the bait tank… hmmm. that sounds like a definite plan to me. might as well try it, gots to be better than well/tap water.
tom and i should have wet lines around 7. we won’t wet em till the finder lights up a bit though so at least the boat will be wet. lol.
we’ll be putin in at the dam. ch 68 is prolly the best bet so we can scatter to find the fish.
we don’t have riggers, but we got u-rigs. tom got some bigguns from boaters world, i think a bit heavy for the 25# line on my trolling rods.
Tom, the trick is to get your bait down fast. I don’t use the tug and count method. I know on my ambassaduer 5500’s that one crossing of the levelwind is 7.5 feet and on the 6500’s it’s 9 feet. So, I just count the number of times that the level wind makes a full sweep and do the math. Practice by droppin your baits right under the xducer to verify the depth.
Taz, we’ve got a cuz in Calabash and have fished Little River a few times without much luck. We’d gladly listen to any tips you’d care to share and be more than happy to share tips on Murray.
CB, My bride plans to fish, so let’s take mine. I’ll give ya fair warning - don’t get between Elizabeth and buried rod, she’s gonna put a hookset on. I’ll give ya call later.
i may put out some feelers and see if i can get one of my buddies to get a kitchen pass and fish. will get back to you. we still have three days or so to go. the more boats the more empties.
I am suprised santeecarl has not jumped on this.
Dern,
what size weight do you use this time of year to get the bait down. I use 1.5oz, is that ok? I need to jump on with one of you pros sometime. Most of my knowledge is self taught. I have been at it for three years and can do ok at times, but not as good as most of you MSC guys. Especially in the winter, I struggle then.
good question there steely.
i’ve alwys tried to match the weight to the rod. i fish with both med light and med heavy action rods (as you well know tom) and the ‘lure’ weight on the med light is 3/4 to 1 oz and the med heavy is 1 to 1.5oz i think. seems like when i go heavier than the 1 oz on the lighter action i get a lot more tip bounce obviously.
question is, should i even care about the weight/rod action issue and does that even effect the bite?
another question for you more experienced…my reading has provided the basis for my 3’ leader under swivel, but i watched a you tube clip from some guide in GA that said to use a 6-7’ leader. what do you guys do? and why?
Generally just about the same as you. 3-4 feet of leader and 1.5 oz weight.Use a Ugly stick med-hvy rod with penn 330gti’s. Man, can’t wait for the weekend! Some fish are being caught that are in the 20lb range in deeper water and no gill maggots!
Epic Failure=When everyday, run of the mill failure just won’t do
ok—I see you guys talking about me…I have to work this weekend…but…all of you go and have a grand time catching fish while I slave away…someone has to do it…
and besides — I DIDN’T GET AN INVITE…I have got to change deordorants or something…
Carl,
No invite needed, nobody was invited. we all invited ourselves. Have fun at work:smiley:
