Repowering Boat

Looking to repower my Pathfinder 2200. Who should I check out locally to get this done. Currently have a Yamaha, but might consider Suzuki. Thanks in advance.

are they available now? I thought they were only made available for the military? Neat motor. Wonder what max rpm rating is?

The Cox Marine 300 is still not available. It was supposed to be this fall but has been pushed back a while. Superior Diesel is the local distributor for them. From what I understand, it will go to Military trials first, then if accepted, they will fill the NATO contract before becoming available to the recreational market.

Plenty of options to get this done locally, including numerous sponsors of this site. From what I’ve heard, there is a shortage of loose Yamaha engines, especially the 4.2 V6. You may have to explore other options like Suzuki or Mercury

what year and model PF do you have? What motor do you currently have?
why are you repowering? curious.

I have a 2001 2200V with a 2001 Yamaha VMax 200. Motor has been having some issues lately and don’t want to keep throwing money at it. Looking for a Yamaha or Suzuki 200hp 4stroke. Was interested in which dealerships to look at and which ones to avoid. Thanks.

got it. im guessing you have the carb version of the VMAX vs the HPDI ‘detonator’ version(s) i had.

engine weight should be a key factor in your engine choice. many of the early PFs had ‘wet feet’ syndrome. putting a heavier engine on may cause wrinkled toes

keep in mind you have to have a 20" shaft, and they are a bit harder to find around here.

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING

Was looking at the web sight for this diesel outboard This thing looks really promising. All I’ve seen is the 300. Anyone heard if it’s gonna be offers in smaller versions? Probably be a great investment for a crabber or over commercial use.

I’ve actually been wanting to build a diesel/hydraulic drive boat. It would be great for something like a crab boat. I don’t think I’ll get much top speed but it’ll be high torque and very good at load speed control.

Looking at that idea for years! Talked to a hydraulic eng. in canada and he was working on a single engine/pump and 2 drive motors, steer like a skid steer

I actually had a 24hp zero turn mower that I thought about pulling the drive system out and rigging it on a Jon boat. Twin screw, stick steer Jon boat!

Can you imagine the problems a diesel outboard would cause after the EPA gets involved? EGR and a DPF with DEF on an outboard, no thanks! Would be great, though if not for that.

If the EPA hasn’t made us put cats on gas outboards, they won’t make us on diesels. Now I’m not saying cats on outboards aren’t coming, they’re already on PWCs and inboards, but they haven’t made it a requirement yet. Cats need to warm to about 800 degrees before they become effective, that will be difficult to achieve on something as compact as an outboard motor.

RexRoth has done a little with it. Bow thrusters and such.

Wonder if you’d have enough power from the zero turn to turn the screws without running through a gear box?

You’d have to take heat and hyd tank size into consideration on a constant load , Maybe run the hyd cooler in the water?

When you do it, post up some video!

There should be plenty of power. I’ve pulled my proline walk around cabin boat with my SCAG many times. It barely grunted, only problem is keeping the front end down. Cooling has been my biggest delimma. I’m either going to have to build some type of passive cooling system or have a large enough tank. The tank on the mower only holds a gallon or so, but it does get warm. I’ve used it to warm my hands in the winter. When I had some commercial accounts, I would now steady for hours at a time, and never saw any signs of fluid overheating, and there isn’t any passive cooling on it.

Back to the topic at hand, Suzuki just introduced a 350 but don’t think you’re gonna find it in a short shaft and weight would be a problem. All I hear is Yamaha 300 are in short supply. 250 SHO seems to be doing good now that folks aren’t over filling with oil.
