They had a right vs left hand retrieve discussion on the Stripers Online/flyfishing forum. Some interesting insight specifically from Popovics(200’ Test). Opinions?

i like to cast right handed and “train” myself to better reel with the Left. i had my 10 and up rods with a rh retreive for speed but it was awkward on the initial run since i out of habit reached for the left handle. definatley faster with a dominate hand retreive at first, but work at it and it’ll eventually get just as fast. better rod control with right hand. For me anyway
My opinion… people think way too much about stuff that really doesn’t matter…
just do what feels natural… done…

Mike…to the point. Wouldn’t expect any less:wink:
Thanks gents
WhenI think about it I can;t remember which one I do better at… I just reel when I need to and let my monkey brain take over… I can reel, shoot pistols and rifles left landed or right handed so I am amphibious I guess
yes I know it is ambidextrious…

People would laugh at me if they saw me trying to reel with my left hand…has something to do with being uncoordinated/goofy/untalented or something like that.
No need to think about this.
90% of thebredsc you will catch will never be on the reel.
I Have always set everything up with LH retreive, it just makes more sense to me to not have to switch up hands to pump/reel. I understand that you might be able to reel a couple nanoseconds faster with your dominate hand, but not having to switch hands when fighting fish (esp big ones like tarpons). Fishing with other folks/guides rods with RH is pretty awkward for me.
I use an automatic.
…and I bet you mount you “auto” on this:wink:

Pinky, you are creative…it’s called gun-metal and “On Sale”(must have been the lighting that threw you off)
Low blow, man:stuck_out_tongue:
Funny ass picture if I say so myself…I miss the Gulf, barely remember that fish!
Just checking to see if you have a sense of humor.
Nice trout.
I never owned one of the automatics but, a buddy showed up with on any years ago. Hand-me-down from his dad. Was pretty fun to use on brim and bass in ponds.
Here you!
It was sick how many that size we caught on the dock lights.
We used to use the “autos” for brim and such on Little/Big Pee Dee rivers. Redbreast and glow bugs are a hoot.
you could do like me, I have one spooled left and one spooled right …
i think that is why fly fishing has a limited appeal. there isnt a drinking hand unless of course you go auto.
he’s pretty white for a fly guy
