Today is the worst day of my 65 year life, our 12 year old Wildrose bred and trained Labrador “Magnum” was diagnosed with Cancer 5 weeks ago and he will likely not make it through the day. Not only is he the greatest companion and Retriever I have ever owned but after a bit more training, for the past 5 years he has also served as my wife’s hearing service dog, that is a bond beyond belief. Today is also unquestionably her worst day ever.
My dad bred, trained and hunted German Shorthairs for many years and he always said “if you are lucky you get one great hunting dog in a lifetime”, Magnum was that special dog.
Please think of Magnum in your prayers.
We are thinking of all 3 of you.
Hunting, fishing, and poker are my sports. Work when necessary.

Thank You, Magnum had to be put to rest around noon today.
Our heart goes out to y’all. It is truly a special thing to have that once in a lifetime dog.
Hate to read this, God Bless Y’all with the loss of a part of your family.

It’s truly a shame dogs like that don’t get to live as long as we do.
My wife and I have 2 from Wildrose. Both are great dogs. Did Mike/Wildrose do the additional service training?
Thanks to all for the well wishes.

Congratulations on your owning two fine dogs! Whiskey was the sire of Magnum.
The Wildrose Trainer that originally trained Magnum is no longer at Wildrose but he assisted us in the additional training. Because the dog was mature and already well trained and very close to my wife as well as being used to the trainer (amazing how those dogs never forget anything) it was really a pretty simple process.
As you can imagine my wife is totally devastated over the loss of that dog, as hunters we think of no stronger bond than that between us and our Retriever but there certainly is a stronger bond between someone with a disability and their service dog.
We also have a 6 year old Boykin trained by the same trainer and we think we will be able to train him to take over Magnums duties. He mostly already understands what to do since he has been around her and Magnum so long.
