Return of Big Thursday Football

So would it be reasonable for the SC General Assembly take up the issue of returning “Big Thursday” football game to turkey day, maybe for a 6 year period.

And it be the only college game played that day?

I think it would benefit both Clemson and USC…that is bowl money television rights that could be split between the schools.

Any thoughts?

Our general assembly should mind more important things and keep their dam noses out of college athletics!!!

Amen to that.

Good Lord NO. Those idiots screw up enough as it is. Stay away from football. There are sooooo many more things that need fixing in this state. When a football game is played is not one of them.

Don’t let them mess up football too!

I only mentioned the SC GA because it is written in state law that both schools meet each and every year.

So then what is the consensus of returning to Big Thursday for a trial period and have both schools enter into television rights agreement together?

As a Clemson Alumni I would support petition both schools for such.

Okay, let me get this straight… There is state legislation that dictates college football schedule? Wow…

It is a state law that Clemson and USC meet every year…yes a law, been a law and I believe was brought about after Clemson and USC football took a hiatus after a “knife-gun fight” between students long ago…

Feel free to correct pr validate me as into why it is a law…

And long ago, Clemson and USC played on Thanksgiving Day…

For both schools, bringing back Big Thursday would be a plus…

I don’t think it is currently a law that they play each year. State Rep. Nathan Ballentine, R-Lexington, introduced a proposal in 2012 to be considered by a panel of House members to require the two teams to each year. A panel of lawmakers rejected a bill that would create a state law requiring South Carolina and Clemson play football every year. The House Higher Education Subcommittee voted down the bill. Members said the government has no business scheduling football games.

I guess not everyone in government is an idiot.

I would love to see it on Thanksgiving Day but I can understand why they avoid it

I do think what is written into state law is the game CAN NOT END IN A TIE, seems like after the last time they tied (before the OT rules we have now) the State Legislature actually passed a law that the CU/USC football game could never end in a tie

I really don’t like the idea of playing on thanksgiving. Most people want to spend the day with family gorging on all the great food. The crowd at the game would be down from what it would be on Saturday. Even if it were a night game, unless you live near or are visiting relatives nearby either Columbia or Clemson, getting there for the game would be a logistical nightmare. Many would probably have thanksgiving dinner at the tailgate, but that also would be a lot of extra work involved.

Leave it the way it is.

A sign of the apocalypse, Carolina and Clemson fans agree. Leave it alone.

I will leave it at most people don’t want to change it…

But the back story to the law can be found…
