Rev limiters

Do modern fuel injected outboards have rev limiters? I’ve got an 08 Yammie 60 4 stroke that doesn’t have a tach, so I’ve got no idea what I’m turning at WOT. The other day I was by myself and trimmed it up and let it eat for 10 seconds or so and it sounded like it started to cutout. I immediately backed off the throttle and it seemed to be running fine. I’ve hit the top speed limiter on a number of vehicles over the years and it was kind of the same sensation.

Yes there is a over-revolution control on your outboard; 6,200 rpm’s. There will be a delay from when you over-rev to when the limiter kicks in, about 7 seconds this is the same for most sensors.

shain is correct, the rev limiter does just what you are describing.
if you are hitting the rev limit, it might be worth looking into a new prop

Thanks to both of you for your responses. The conditions were optimal on the day that this happened; cold, light chop, running downwind by myself with the boat empty and 1/4 tank of gas. It does sound like I might need more prop, but I definitely have to get a tach.
