My Yamaha 70 is making a grinding noise when I try to put it in reverse. Sometimes it catches and sometimes it grinds. Forward works perfectly. What is the problem you think? and the solution?
make sure your not slideing it into reverse. go ahead and put it in gear!

Had the same problem with 2007 150 yamaha. There was some issue with the cluches and yamaha fixed it at no charge. Mine only did it when I was in a tight spot and needed rev. Looked like a rookie at the boat ramp.

Ill try that tide. If it still does it, where do u recommend I take it to get looked at? Somewhere thats not going to take my shirt and pants in the process. haha!
You might just need to adjust your shift cable, or your cable might be stretched. If you need someone to look at it call Berkeley Outdoors 761-2628.
based on the info you provided, my first guess would be a bad shift cable causing it to be out of adjustment.
