Reverse

So I have an older 140 Johnson and it runs great and goes forward just fine but when i go in reverse it goes really slow in respect to how much the engine is revved up like a transmission going out in a car. Would I just need to replace the reverse lower unit gears or should i be concerned about something else? Any help is much appreciated. Thank you

what kind of boat do you have

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING

When you need to position in reverse, docking, loading on trailer. Trim the motor up a bit past vertical. Will reduce cavitation and direct water forward not up at the bottom of the boat. In reverse the prop has to push water around the foot and is pulling exhaust in…they’re not very efficient in reverse.
