Reward - Stolen Boat Trailer

My trailer was stolen off of my truck at the Cherry Point boat landing on Wadmalaw sometime early this morning. Offering a cash reward if found. Its a custom Ameritrail trailer for a 22’ Pathfinder. Has Pathfinder stickers on it and also says Trapper Custom Marine on the sides.

That takes a lot of you know what. I live on Johns Island and I will be glad to keep my eye out for your trailer. If I find it,you have to take me fishing.

I’d like to spit some Beechnut in that dude’s eye. That really sucks.Did you leave it there overnight?

Dang, I really hate that for you. Not much lower than a thief. Just curious as bad things like this can be a teaching moment for others. Was it locked on? How did they get it off?

Often thought about this happening and now what do you do with a boat in the water and no trailer?

had it happen to me at remleys years back. I was being chased back to the boat landing by a huge summer storm…got to the landing and my lock was laying on the ground were my trailer was. Called the police and the cop told me i should have used a better lock.

I had my trailer stolen also years ago in Bulls Bay area. Had everything locked. Bastard removed the nut off the ball and moved ball and trailer over to his truck. Ever since, I have welding my nut onto the ball so it can’t be removed from hitch. I would suggest everyone should do this. Also called police and trailer was never found.

Why don’t they make you register your trailers like a car? Get a plate and tabs.

I never heard of such problems in Washington, they had problems with outboard motor theft. mostly small kickers for trolling for salmon.

Grady, I think they just cut up the trailers for scrap. I wish the sheriff would put out a bait trailer.

Seen* on Facebook where the trailer has been found. Great news.

After being released, a lot of fish die, but a lot of them live also.

Awesome! Social media doing something good for a change.

Wow, I didn’t know this was a ‘thing’. I never lock my trailer, let alone weld the ball hitch.
Now I will. Like to more about them locating that trailer.

"No… it’s okay, I know the way out…

I wonder if they caught the turd that stole it? Glad they recovered it.

Seems cherry point hasn’t changed much since I was a kid… Winches, jacks, tires, truck boxes, winch stands etc. have been stolen off trailers and trucks. The unwritten rule was to back your trailer in a space as far as possible, lock everything tight and burr the threads on bolts to prevent unbolting.

Mine doesn’t have a convenient way to lock it to the vehicle, no hole in the latch to put a lock through. I may run a security cable from the trailer through the safety chain holes on the hitch and lock that. I had also thought of running the cable through the spokes on the wheels to the trailer frame and locking. What a pain!

I used a short (2’ maybe) piece of chain wrapped around the hitch frame and secured with a long shackle lock to the safety chain. The setup would allow the safety chain to be attached as normal but would be enough of pita for a thief to move to a less secure trailer. The trailer never was stolen.

With the advancements in cordless tools, chains, cables, and locks aren’t even an inconveince anymore.
The tools they use are probably stolen too.
