Does anyone have any experience or firsthand knowledge of Huskemaw scopes, produced in Wyoming? Putting an elk/mule deer package together for next fall.
Thanks

Just looked over all their stuff on the website and watched the video. They didn’t sell me on them, no zerostop, no illuminated reticles and unproven IMO. A lot of options out there in that price range, Nightforce, Trijicon, Meopta, Leica, Swaro, Zeiss. Ive been shooting my 6.5 creed for 2 months now and put a NF NXS on it and I have been extremely impressed.
Thank you.
Huskemaw is a niche based product. The way they set up the scopes is based on one load for one rifle with little to no deviation. Glass is pretty good but the price is high when you can get much better optics.
Nightforce is coming out with a new line of SHV scopes in a month or so. This starts with the 4X16X50 F1. You have the choice of MOA or MIL based reticles, illumination, zeroset, externally adjustable elevation turret and capped windage. I’m waiting on this one to complete a build and scope swap I’m working on. Should be perfect for my 7mm08 and swap my NXS to the project.
There was a Huskemaw on the SWFA Sample List a few weeks ago for next to nothing though.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Thanks guys. What I am looking for is a scope I can pair with a Remington 700 7mm mag. Hunting will be whitetail in South Caroilna. Max shot 250 yards. Mule deer and maybe Elk in Colorado. Daughter just moved there and gives me more incentive to go do something I have always wanted to do. Looking to spend around $1000 or so. A little older so eyes are not that great. What are your thoughts.
Would like to have: Low light capabilities, Return to Zero capabilities, Illumination reticle, Durability, Fog proof etc.
Thanks again. Will be putting together over the winter. No hurry.
Sent you a pm, Saltydog knows what hes talking about as well.

That new NF SHV will be the ticket but it’s not due out for another month or so from what I’ve found.
You could also look hard at the Trijicon 5X20X50 with either the BAC Triangle or Std Duplex. Everyone out there has illumination as an option, none of them do it as good as Trijicon. The only thing the Trijicon doesn’t offer is the Zero Stop which is a drawback if you are dialing in more than one revolution and forget to set it back.
There will be a lot of Vortex PST scopes available for cheap when that SHV comes out so you could pick one of them up. Their entire reticle lights up though which is a serious drawback IMO when hunting. Scopes where the entire reticle illuminates tend to wash out the target and draw the eye. You really only want the very center to light up be it a dot or fine crosshair.
Meopta Meostar has amazing light gathering capabilities and glass. They don’t offer a factory option of dialable, Zerostop and external turrets on that line. You can send off your load data and have Kenton make turrets for it though but again you wont have Zerostop.
Ziess is awesome in light gathering and has good reticles but you really have to get into the Victory/Diavari lin
THANKS MARK
Another one worth taking a look at is the Burris XTR II. It’s a 34mm tube, has a complex reticle, good glass, FFP scope. It’s basically the same scope as the Stiener Military scopes out at 1/2 the price. Again the entire reticle lights up so, it’s got a big drawback there for me. Tracks and rezero’s easily though. You can find them for around $1K if you look. For what you are describing though, it would be low on the list.
Bushnell has the Elite LR Hunter out as well. Great glass, decent BDC modified reticle, FFP, Zeroset but, no illumination.

Dear SaltyDog…I wanted to follow up on this discussion as I was looking to replace a Leupold Vari-X lll 2.5x10x50 on my Rem. 700 .270 around the same time as I saw this thread. It was obvious to me that you had expert level knowledge, so I did a little due diligence on my own and ended buying the Trijicon 2.5x10x56 with the tripod reticle in red. The Leupold scope had served me well for years, but my eyes have lost their once taken for granted 20x15 clarity. I didn’t want to start wearing glasses in the blind, so I decided to upgrade to the illuminated technology. The gunsmith who mounted the scope, he’s my age range, said he was going to buy one for himself. The clear field of view with the aiming point illumination is a god send. I’ll estimate that this scope will give me an extra 45 minutes in the blind. Thanks.

Awesome, Trijicon makes an excellent scope for the money. I love hunting with mine, the illumination is always right. Hope it serves you well.
