Hello All,
I am looking for a rifle vise for sighting mid range center fire guns. Something that is not terribly costly and can be used with a range of stock profiles.
Thanks

A bipod and a rear sand bag.

That’s all I use for short action rounds. Solid as a rock with a few sand bags under the butt stock.
I’m a bag guy but I know some guys that use these and they seem to like them…

I have actually shot off of the Rock (first link) and it was ok. Like I said, I still refer bags.

Bench rest and a rabbit ear bag filled with lead shot is what I use mostly. Bipod can be used as well. Using a vise or lead sled is detrimental to shooting skills, learn to adjust your aim and control your breathing on a more traditional rest, then when the time comes your shot will be more comfortable.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

My nephew insists on practicing with a vice… sad thing is he has missed more than he has killed. He tries to blame it on the gun, Not many stands have a vice mounted in them.
A solid mounted vice clamped to your rifle is Heck on a scope

Shooting from a vise or sand bagged up is for sighting in your scope, and seeing how well your rifle shoots…not for how well you shoot your rifle in a hunting situation. Had to break a few friends from only practicing from a vise…
My Daughter shoots from a small bench rest she uses while hunting, using only a bipod, so her practice on a bench simulates how she hunts. Going to start her shooting off a piece of foamed tubing, to simulate shooting from a ladder stand soon.
She’s been using a small bench set up to hunt from for years, but this season I made her one that breaks down into 4 pieces, to make carrying it much easier…on me.
I completely agree that using a “free” stand is the way to go.
Thanks for all the input!

</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>Amen! Very well said. Couldn’t agree more.
When in the stand or hunting on the ground, I use a Trigger Stick and a small sand bag (only use a bag when in a stand). When hunting from my Summit Trophy chair on the gorund, I only use my Trigger Stick. When hunting from a stand, I lay the sand bag on the shooting rail/window edge of the stand and adjust the trigger stick so I can rest my elbow on it.

I don’t know exactly what my old man bought but he just got a new vise and it is AWESOME. We had one for a long time that was terrible as it got in the way of resting your cheek on the gun. I sighted my gun in with 2 shots. I let my buddy use it to shoot a few times after me. At 50 yards he hit the head of a bolt on the first try, it was the smaller than a dime. He’s not even a super experienced shooter.
It looks a little like this on but has more adjustments. Two on the front legs, one under the barrel, and one under the rear.

If I get a chance I’ll figure out which one he got.
