RightRx 5/2 and 5/3 Overnighter with pics

We wanted to fish the MEATFISH Slam but everyone’s schedule/questionable weather didn’t allow for it. So, we left Georgetown at 10:30 Friday for an overnighter. We have been twice this year once in March and again in mid April but there wasn’t enough trolling action to report.

Got to the ledge around 1pm after a nice ride and found a good weed line/rip/2 degree temp break with 75 deg water on one side. Decided that might be a good place to start…

As we were letting out the second line the first gets whacked and we put a small hoo in the box. Got set and 2 more go down. 2 gaffer dolphin in the box with more following them. Broke out the spinning gear and boated four more. The little guy caught the biggest with minimal help from the adults!

Got back on the troll and had a picked up a few more before a lull in the action. We pushed deep but not much there. Came back in hoping for tuna. Saw some tunas breaking here and there but caught Bonita Bonita and Bonita. Until all of a sudden it was Blackfin Blackfin and Blackfin . Caught 5 nice ones including one over 30#.

Anchored between some commercial guys on the ledge and spent the night. The current was RIPPING and bottom fishing wasn’t worth the effort and we were all beat anyway.
Got up in the dark and got back on the troll at 6 am. By 7:30 am we all had our morning workout cranking in chunky Blackfin . At this point the ice was wearing thin and the box was getting full.

We pushed back to the weedline area we fished the day before and to our surprise, it was still there.

We topped off the box with more gaffer dolphin until 10 am and packed it up.

Local Boy, Just having fun.

What happened to the dolphin at the very bottom of the last pic? Bait??

The problem is circled (Ford)

Yep
And Dnr gave us a warning. Not knocking them at all, they were both very nice,
But We argued “landed with head and tail intact”

How can you gut one at sea but not cut out any belly meat?

Anybody had similar experience? I’m not sold on this being a violation of the law.

I would think that they are incorrect. There is no law that says you can't gut a fish offshore. It's a pretty common practice. As nice and professional as DNR is, sometimes you have to remind them of the law.

what were the tuna hitting juice?
