OK, I have one for the motor guys. 2001 Yamaha 200 HPDI x 2, always run Yamaha - RingFree, every fillup. Now StarTron is out, and supposed to do everything Ringfree does + take care of the E10 gas issue. So, my question is this… should I switch? Why / why not? Have not had any fuel issues, and engines run great, but I have seen a lot of problems with other boats caused by the E10 fuel.
Thanks,

I don’t think Startron is a substitute for Ring Free. Star Tron conditions and stabilizes the fuel so that it does not accumulate water or break down as quickly. Ring Free dissolves varnish in the fuel system and carbon in the combustion chamber.
If you use Star Tron then you probably have less bad fuel affects and the need for Ring Free would be less. However, I would not stop using Ring Free as there is always going to be carbon build up in the marine engine no matter how good the fuel is.
I use Mercury Quick kleen with every fill up. It is very similar to Ring Free. If there comes a time when I’m not burning a tank every 2 months then I will use a stabilizer like Startron and Quick kleen together.

Thanks guys, I think I am going to stick with the Ring Free for in-season use, and use a stabelizer like Star Tron or Stabil during the off-season layup.

2 very different applications
ring free is to help reduce carbon build up
startron is to help prevent phase seperation with ethanol fuel
with an hpdi I would use both
I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com
Thanks Chris, so it IS ok to run both at the same time?

run ring free and yamaha fuel treatment… can’t hurt anything and the potential upsides are enormous… cost is minor compared to repair(s)…
