I just bought a ‘new’ boat. It has a 2005 bow mounted riptide. Extension handle, I think 80# thrust, 24v.
When I went to use it, put it in the water, cranked the handle over a bit. the motor on the bottom turned about 120 degrees, the indicator turned about 45 degrees, and I turned sick.
I don’t understand if there is a loose collar somewhere, or missing one. Surely this thing should NOT act like this. Can someone help un-dumb me?
I had one of the same vintage. The motor is made to turn something like 3X the relative amount that move the tiller turn the tiller. So, pushing the tiller like 10 degrees to the side will swing the head around about 45 degrees. The problem I had was that the indicator gears are plastic and broke free from the gearing. I called MinnKota and had the whole top plate of the head assembly shipped. It was not to difficult to fix myself though it was fiddly requiring three hands. I don’t remember the cost but I’m pretty sure it was less than $50 for the parts.
JLeephoto, that is very interesting. I will need to look at that when I get the boat back. (bad firing is stopping it from running) I may catch up with you and talk about this some more. Thanks!
