Riptide trolling motor

Trolling motor question. 18 foot sea pro needs a trolling motor. I am looking at minnkota riptide either 55 or 70 lb thrust. This is a bow mount tiller style. Do y’all have recommendations on size. What are the pros and cons od 12 volt vs 24 volt systems.

Thanks,
Steve

You will need at least a 70 lb thrust 24V model.

The bigger the better. You’ll be happier in the long run.

The bigger the better and the more batteries the better. I have a 17’ flats boat with 101# motor and 3 batteries. I can handle any situation that needs power and can fish 4-5 days without charging.

An 18’ boat I would start with a 70# plus 24v and increase from there if you can afford it or have the battery space.

the bigger the better, 24v 70lb minimum. 101 on a 17 flats is a little extreme but I bet it will whip that boat all over the river, you can never go to big when it comes to motors of any kind, max it out.

you need at least a 70# on an 18 seapro

HOLY smokes! I have a 55lb thrust on my 16 and it moves it pretty good. I can’t even Imagine a 101 lb thrurst up there. You probably get on plane pretty quick with that thing up there!

yo

I have 80# 24V on my 177 Scout, would not want any less!

It’s more about the battery life than the power. I use my motor to troll for stripers all day running 2-2.5 mph. Never had a drained battery yet running 36 volts. The 101 # thrust is just a side effect of running 3 batteries. Hence why I said 70# and 24 volt would be plenty for most people.

Thanks for the comments… Looks like a 70 lb for me. I am set up for a 24volt and have the batteris in place. My wife informed me that this is my last “toy” purchase for a while as we now have a little girl on the way!

It’ll be alright, I’m on vacation!!!

If it’s the “last” purchase, make it worth it!!

we have the minnkota 80# ipilot/u2 with gps and wireless remote. it is the bomb and moves the 19’ seapro cc bay series easily. i highly recommend it. a little on the dollars side but worth it.

the last for the time being… theres always next season!
