What’s the deal with these motors? Reading about a lot of issues and possibly even appears minn Kota pulled them off the market as they’ve been back ordered for forever. What say ye…good bad? Did they get them fixed? When will they be available?
the ulterra is probably the most common motor we currently sell.
they have not been pulled off the market.
they are in stock today.
they changed some of the auto deploy components, and during that time they were unavailable
Mine has been back to Chris a couple of times, MK updated some parts, touch wood mine has been working well.
I do usually get a ‘motor error’ msg at least once a trip and turning of the motor/turning on fixes it.
Not sure if this is normal.

I have the Terrova, which is the same but a manual deploy. Deploy on these is a snap. I push down the lever with my fingers and deploy with the other hand. I can see the benefit of auto deploy but for me I’d rather have less to go wrong in the long run. I depend on the TM way too much to have it ruin my fishing day
I’ve had zero issues with the Terrova. Charleston Marine did all the spec out and install and they did a 100% awesome job.

I’m with Dave on this one. Might consider one for my Glassmaster striper boat with then step up windsheld when they get the kinks ironed out. Have friends with them and all have had problems at one time or the other. MK has tried hard to fix them!
I think the autodeploy is nice but its really a case of over engineering. To Optikers point, I dont think the feature is worth the risk of dealing with broken or malfunctioning parts. I’d like to see MK spend time on some simple, more meaningful features…like a visual indicator for current speed setting. The beeps dont work for me. You cannot hear the beeps in high wind or when fishing in the rear of the boat. And you cannot tell what setting 1 - 10 it is currently set at. Also now that there is a microcontroller in the head why not put a small digital display on the base mount to show depth and water temp…sometimes I just need to know the depth and temp where I am fishing. And with BT its possible to show depth and temp in their smartphone app.

Boatless…but I have buddy with a boat!
My remote shows the speed setting, 1 to 10.
Cheers

My previous fishing partner had both a 24 and 36 volt Riptide Ulterra and had problems with both. Paint issue was one problem, but the rest were related to the auto deploy feature. He switched over to the Terrova series.
MinnKota makes good products, but just like a vehicle, you should never buy the first couple of years of production. It takes a couple of years to get the kinks worked out.
I have had mine two years without a problem. I would buy it again if it got stolen.
Face it… some folks can’t operate a TV REMOTE, if so then the Ulterra is not for you.
