Not planning on breaking the law but it would be cool to get some pics and do a little fishing.

Old news… I live a 2-1/2 mile paddle from there…

Thinking of touring out there if I have enough interest… Crossing the Morgan River can be touchy… I would prefer to have others along for safety sake…

Supposed to be some GREAT Redfish flats on the end of the island…

The big boat house on Coosaw that was used for Forest Gump was built by the company that has control of the island. Few years ago some of the monkeys got loose on Coosaw Island and people would drive around looking for them. Word has it that a few might have been shot, but I would not know anything about that.

There is a sand bar at Parrot Creek that has some pretty big Reds close by, I have also seen Tarpon jumping in late summer.

Eagles may soar, but weasels never get sucked into jet air intakes

So when do we want to do this?

Sounds like late summer… "There is a sand bar at Parrot Creek that has some pretty big Reds close by, I have also seen Tarpon jumping in late summer.

Where is a good place to put in close to Parrot Point Creek?

Just wondering if anybody is still thinking about this trip? There a a hole about 50 feet deep close to the mouth of ??? just a little ??? of Monkey Island that a friend caught a Bass over 50 inches. Do know that a lot of people swear about the size of the bass in this spot.

If anyone really wont’s to do this trip I have checked on a couple of options so far.

First: We can use a boat as a mother ship to shuttle us to Parrot Creek and then pick us up again.

Second: I’m checking on access to the Morgan River with someone that has a dock there and then we can paddle around to Parrot Creek and Monkey Island.

Yes, I am always looking for these day trips.

Monkeyfishing
Cruel and unusual? Or good sporting fun?

I joined a friend for a monkeyfishing expedition back in 1996 because I did not believe this kind of thing actually happened. We left Summerland Key in a small skiff one sunny afternoon and motored out down Lois’ way. We knew we were getting close to the island when the normally pellucid emerald waters of the lower keys gave way to a filthy brown, and the smell of monkey waste spoiling under the tropical sun rolled over us like a storm.

when do you want to go s1tpilot? Now a big plan a few months ahead. I get it in my mind and thats it. Ready to do it.

Not sure of my schedual yet for August, have to bid every month for my schedual so will be sometime in July. Will be in Charleston for a family wedding the first week of August but other than that I’m free for the month. How does the second weekend of August sound? Or y’all can pick some other day.

If we do a mothership support how much would people be willing to pay for that? I know the guy who does ACE Basin Tours and he has a larger pontoon boat that would work. Not sure what he would charge but will check it out.

Spoke to the man with the tour boat and said he would be willing to take us to the island and pick us up again for about $300.00

Also suggested another trip of putting in at the Hwy 17 Bridge on one of the other rivers and then we could fish the outgoing tide and he knows a cut that he would be able to pick us up. Says that he has seen sturgeon in that area as big as 8 feet. That would be in about the $700.00 range. Bit expensive but would be some trip.

If you don’t mind a little paddle, we could launch from the landing in my neighborhood, and paddle about 3 miles out to the island… A couple more for the flats to fish, and return… Probably close to 10 miles round trip…

I am heading out there with some non-fishing paddleing friends later this month (20th I believe…may be the 27th). You are free to join me then if you want to see the place.

I’d rather paddle 10 miles and enjoy some scenery and have a bunch of fun than to pay $700 to someone… Then again that’s just me  You do mean 27 May right? 27 June is the Border War…
