Rod holders for Mt. Pleasant Pier

Saw a bunch of guys at the pier with what looked like rod holders made from PVC pipe that they straped to the side of the rail. Looked like they were made from maybe 2" diameter PVC pipes with a 45 degree elbo on the top that the rod slid into.

I wanted to make some for myself but I don’t know how tall they need to be.

Has anyone made any of these for themselves?

Any Advice?

It shouldn’t be too hard
the bottom leg should be the same height as the rail- then glue on a 45 degree sweep tee and make the straight leg long enough for your rod handle to go through

yeah and use velcro straps to hold them down, I think thats how they have been doing it, wondering how many of them have lost rods …

Need to check your drag often.

I’d rather fish than eat.

How tall is the rail? Does anyone know of the top of there head? I was thinking around 46" does that sound right?

Next time I am over that way I will measure

Why waste money on a 45 and extra pipe? Just get a 2’ piece of 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" pipe and strap it on with 3 tie wraps. Much more secure than velcro and cheap.

Good point, I am going out there tomorrow, I will try that.

Hi I just came accross this post I am one of the guys that does this and what I use is a 1" ratchet tie down that way it will pull down real tight on it to keep it from moving. Hope this helps
