Rod holders for yaks

I am building my first kayak and hope to have it ready by Christmas. I am looking for a good rod holder system that won’t interfere with paddling the yak. I have used bungees but they are a pain in the butt. Somebody throw me a bone please.

Ocean Kayak sells one for their sit on tops that is recessed into the deck. Its basically a tube with a 2 hole flange that gets screwed or pop riveted in place and sits flush. There’s your bone! Check the OC website for a picture.

There is a brand called Scott’s or Scotties that makes recessed and on deck holders that work well on kayaks. Try an internet search.

I own a Perception and found a rod holder for my kayak that clamps to the front face lip of the kayak.I didn’t want to drill any holes in my yak so I bought a clamp style that works great. Paid 15 dollars for it on a website that I found ,searching just for rod holders but I cant remember the site,It’s been at least 3 years, I did a search after I read your post and couldn’t believe of all the new kayaks they have out now,Most fisher ready!!!Good luck in searching!!!

Try this website. www.kayakfishingstuff.com There is a lot of information concerning rod holders and different ways to rig out your kayak. Some of those guys are hard core!

If you are ok drilling holes in your kayak use a flush mount rod holder you can get them at boaters world for under 15 dollars. If you do not want to drill holes then buy a seat with them on the back. I have the GTS elite seat with rod holders. You can get it at Ludens for about 175 dollars. If you do not want to pay that much they do also make a cheaper seat. The only thing different is that it does not have as much pading. It is all up to you what you want to put on your kayak.
