Thinking about adding some flush mount rod holders to my boat. Any thoughts on brands and angle degrees. Thanks.

I think a pair of 30 degree gunnel mount rod holders at the rear would be a safe bet.
Check out www.marinepartdepot.com. I bought 4 about a year ago. I believe they are 25 - 30 degree, they are flush mount with the rubber caps. I have been happy with them and the price was right.
Biggerthanyours, are you saying you have 18 flush mounted rod holders on your gunnel? I have others on my seat and tee top I just only have 2 on my gunnel. Just looking to add a few more on the gunnel in the back.
Thanks DFreedom I’ll check it out.
quote:No...... not on the gunnel. I'm like you. With the rocket launchers, leaning post and along the gunnel there are 18 fixed/flush rod holders. I have a couple on the bow that a lot of people don't usually have. A couple at the rear will get a lot use. You can slide downriggers in those also.

Whenever you cut the holes, make sure you seal the edge of the hole to prevent water intrusion. It would be good to coat the edges with epoxy. Some people even go so far as to over-drill the hole, then fill the hole with epoxy/wood flower and then drill the right size hole through the epoxy. Good luck.
Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind. Seems like a pretty easy job, it’s just something about drilling a hole in your boat that doesn’t seem right.
Drilling that first big hole was tough but, once you do that one is gets easier. I checked my placement about 10 times before I drilled the first one and was still nervous. And trust me, my boat is nothing special.
I put extra ones in my gunnel. I used 3/8" cutting board as backing. It’s cheap, won’t rot and beefs it up a bit. I secured the holders with panhead bolts and locknuts with flat and lock washers. Also, as you probably know, use SS hardware…
Fairly easy to do, but I was a little nervous at first as well…

I’m a big fan of Perko stuff. Expensive, but seems to hold up quite well. Check eBay for some decent pricing.
