getting ready for my vacation coming up over the 4th. Going to be at Kiawah for the 5th year. Couple of questions: I bring my kayak with me and have fished back past the Kiawah river bridge and all those creeks in the area. I am looking at buying a new rod, looking at a Daiwa emblem surf rod. It is 7ft, rated 1/2 to 2 ozs. The reason I was looking at this rod is I thought it may work good for the whiting I catch in the surf, my other surf rods are a bit over kill for these guys and also use it in my yak using shrimp and jigs. I also go to Hatteras a couple of times a year and thought it may work good as a flounder and trout rod there as well. Probably work pretty well too on land locked stripers around home. Anybody know of these rods or have any opinions?
Also, I would like to hook up with another kayaker if anybody is game. I fish a lot (by myself a lot too) out of my boat here in Va. for smallmouth but I find myself a little uneasy being by myself out in the saltwater. Also it would be nice to see how the fishing back in there (or anywhere nearby) should be done. I have had some decent luck, but having a local show you where and how is second to none in opinion.
