You’re right handed, bought a spinning outfit, how do you setup the reel handle? Do you hold the rod in your right hand and work the reel handle with your left hand or the other way around?
I cast/hold the rod with my right hand & reel with my left .
Ditto… as with most.

I hold the rod with my left and reel with my right. I am right handed. Most right handed people are opposite of that but my dads left handed so i grew up using them setup thay way.

2nd that. the guide i use down in keywest gives me he ll for that
I am right handed and use my right hand to reel. Just use what ever you feel comfortable doing, there is no right or wrong way. However I’m trying to switch to my left hand for when I am using someone else rod or especially with lures, you get a better action with your dominate hand.

I’m bass ackwards as well, I grew up throwing baitcasters and never got used to reeling with my left hand, so I still use my right hand to reel. I just got used to it and never changed up.

I was born right handed, but became left handed in 1971. I prefer to cast and lift with my strong arm and reel with my weak arm.
I find it odd that even the cheapest spinning reels have the option to switch the handle for either hand reeling, but none of the conventional revolving spool reels gives you that choice, no matter the cost.

I don’t really think there is “right” way to do it, just preference… But, that being said, those of you that are right handed, and reel right handed. Do you cast with your right and then switch off hands to retrieve? Just curious. The reason I ask, is because the rod and reel I got for my mother, I set up for right handed retrieve. Every **** time I pick that thing up, it throws me off (having to switch hands after casting).

I’m right handed and hold rod with right and reel with left. I grew up using spinners that way so baitcasters were always backwards to me. When I do use a baitcaster (rarely), I cast with right hand and then switch hands to reel since most are right-side retrieve as Larry mentioned. When I was considering buying one, I found that you’re limited to which ones you can even order/buy with a left hand retrieve. Most are only manufactured right-hand retrieve.
I cast with my right hand then switch over to my left to hold the rod, reeling with your non-dominate will help you get the extra casts in by the end of the day but it is just to hard for me…
