rod repair or piece replacement?

i have a 4piece 8’ Cortland CL 2wt fly rod. about 2inches of the tip on the 2nd segment is broken off. the rod is about 9 years old and otherwise is in great condition. i dont really have the money to buy a new rod, is there anyway to get it repaired or does anyone know if cortland, or any other wholesale companies, sell single segments? any input whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.

No company that I know of sells single sections… You could get it fixed if it had a waranty, but then I don’t know what rod modle you have…

Unfortunately there is also no way to repair a broken graphite rod… you could just put a tip on it from the point that it broke. but that will change the entire dynamic of the rod… unfortunately it looks like your in the market for a new rod my friend…

Thats unfortunate. Anyone by chance have the same rod as mentioned above that they dont use anymore or had a piece of it break that wants to sell me that segment. it was a pretty popular rod back then.

You can fix it by yourself. I broke my 7’ 3wt years ago on a big bluegill. I hadn’t put the two ferrule pieces together all the way. The rod was set up so that the top ferrule slid over the bottom one. (i think thats how most, if not all rods are) It snapped off a few inches off of the bottom portion of the top half of the rod when i lifted too hard. To fix it, my dad and I took a piece of an old graphite fishing rod that fit snugly over the top of the bottom ferrule, but would also have the top piece slide snugly into it. We sanded down the broken end of the top one and then expoxied that 4-5" long piece on the bottom and now it has a new connection, basically reverse of what it should be. (the top piece now slides down into the bottom ferrule) The rod still casts pretty well, it was a wet noodle to start with. I don’t fish with it much, but it has never failed me at the new connection point. I even caught a 3 lb 17 inch smallmouth on it. The rod is also now 6" shorter, but everything works and its a great backup rod!

There is no normal life, there’s just life.

I agree with Mike… Hokie has a good point too but I feel the lack of $$$ my friend but if you can find them St Croix has the Reign series rods and they are awesome and you can find them for less then $100 now. They discontinued the series but they are still out there. I took a 6wt wiht me to Iraq and I can 100% say that they are truly combat tested  Great rods little $$$

Cortland should fix it,check out their site. I broke my diamond back rod that I have had for years and for thirty dollars they will take care of it. Cortland bought them out a few years ago. They may make a new section for you.

That is good to hear about Cortland. Hope they can help RatherBeFishing. Thought he might be up the creek, as they say. Also, good to hear about Diamond Back. I have a 7wt from them that is my work horse rod. Thanks, for passing the information along to the board. Ty

I’ll second the info., on Cortland. They are a great company, just call them and they will tell you what to do. I have a 3wt. that’s been broken and sent back 3 times and they been more than accommodating.
