Good morning guys (and ladies) quick question about rod repair. I have a couple of rods that do not make it out on the ocean but a couple times a year and apparently one of the them had fallen out of the rod rack onto another rod, and had been leaning against it for some time and slightly damaged the top layer of the fiberglass enamel on both, to where it looks like a blister that had popped. All the rod repair kits I see online are mainly for the rod guides, and not the actual rod itself. Thanks!
Sounds like a job for Steve Baysinger and Haddrells in Mt. Pleasant to me.

If only I lived in chucktownnnnnn! Just don’t think I’ll make it down there before I need to use it. Heard great things about Steve though. Might call and see if I can ship it to him. Just would rather do it on my own if it’s not to big of a fix.

Is the rod blank actually damaged or just the epoxy finish? The finish is easy to fix. Sand it lightly with some 220 grit paper, then steel wool. Clean it with alcohol and brush on a couple of coats of epoxy.
You can get a couple ounce kit for a few dollars.
Check out www.mudhole.com for rod repair and building supplies. They have a lot of instructional videos also.

Thanks a bunch Cracker Larry that helped a ton! I really do not think the rod blank is damaged it seems mainly cosmetic (hoping so at least), but the blister spot is located right at the base of the rod, above the grip. I know that area of the rod is supposed to be the “beefiest” or strongest, that’s why it’s worrying me a little. I think I’m going to do exactly what you mentioned and see what happens. Thanks again sir!
