Rod safety straps

Does anyone use “safety straps or lines” on their lines while running. I have seen pictures on them on rods in the stern gunwale holders and never used them. Thanks

Yes. Especially when you combine inexperienced anglers with bent butt rods… store bought are expensive. Make your own with suncor ss clips from home depot and spliced three strand. Mine are 8’ long with a loop on one end and the clip on the other.

Don’t want an inexperienced fisherman dropping a couple hundred bucks in 100 feet of water.

or ya can pick up a Sampsom rope double braid splicing kit and make your own. Single kit is less than $10. Pick out some snap hooks that are easily operated and a coil of quality double braid - I’ve stuck with 1/4". Cheap stuff does not have the correct core to splice according to the instructions.

Install a snap hook on each end or a loop on one end and a snap hook on the other. Make the loop large enough to feed thru your cleats and fold back around them. Small Bimini eye strap holders work ok if ya fasten them securely. I don’t trust anything over a 30 in them, go to a cleat instead. Big boats wrap them around the chair post. At the least, make their finished length as long as the cockpit is wide.

They are bound to absorb some fishy flavors so toss into the soap bucket while washing down. They’ll double as awesome dog leashes too.
